A simpler way to send large files

If you're looking beyond Dropbox for sending files, the difference often comes down to what your recipient has to do. WeTransfer works from any browser, delivers files at full quality, and asks nothing of the person on the other end — no app, no account, no friction.

Why choose WeTransfer

Sending large files shouldn't mean onboarding your recipient into a new platform first. WeTransfer puts the focus on the transfer itself: upload your files, get a link or send directly to an inbox, and your recipient clicks once to download. Nothing gets re-encoded or compressed along the way, so a 4K video, a RAW photo shoot, or a layered design file lands exactly as you exported it. You can lock transfers with a password, restrict access to specific email addresses, or turn on download tracking when you need to know who got what and when. For work that calls for more, paid plans bring branded transfer pages, custom expiry, expired transfer recovery, malware scanning, and shared team workspaces, all without changing how simple the core experience is.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

WeTransfer is a sending tool rather than a storage platform. You upload files to send them, not to organize them in a folder hierarchy your recipient also needs access to. The person receiving your files gets a clean download page and never needs an account, which makes it a natural fit when you're sending to clients, collaborators, or anyone outside your usual workflow.

Free accounts support transfers up to 3 GB. On an Ultimate plan or above, there is no per-transfer size cap, so you can send a full feature film, a large batch of RAW files, or a folder of 3D assets without splitting anything up. Folder uploads preserve your original structure, so recipients download exactly what you packed.

No. WeTransfer does not re-encode, resample, or alter your files in any way. A 4K video arrives at 4K, a high-resolution design file arrives at its original resolution, and audio files retain every bit of the original. The zip packaging used for multi-file downloads is lossless, meaning nothing is stripped out.

Yes, on all plans. You can add a password that recipients must enter before downloading, or restrict access to a specific list of email addresses so only those people can open the link. If you want visibility rather than a hard lock, download tracking lets you see who downloaded your files and when, once you enable it on a transfer.

On a free account, transfers expire after up to 3 days and the files are permanently removed once that window closes. Ultimate plan subscribers can set a custom expiry or keep transfers active indefinitely, and can recover expired transfers even retroactively, including ones that expired before upgrading. Free users cannot recover expired transfers, so for time-sensitive or long-lived work an upgrade makes a practical difference.
