Every file you send through WeTransfer is encrypted in transit using TLS and stored encrypted using AES-256. Files live on AWS infrastructure in EU data centers, and WeTransfer is ISO 27001 certified and fully GDPR-compliant. WeTransfer never sells your files, never uses them to train AI, and employees do not access your content.
You can lock any transfer with a password, so only recipients who know it can download. Beyond that, you can enable restricted access to limit downloads to a specific list of email addresses, or turn on download tracking so anyone with the link must verify their email first and you see exactly who downloaded and when. All three options are available across plans and can be combined on the same transfer.
No account is needed on the receiving end. Recipients can open a download link in any browser, preview images, video, audio, and PDFs before deciding what to download, leave comments on individual files, and download everything, all without signing up. Sending a transfer does require a free WeTransfer account.
WeTransfer sends files in their original quality with no re-encoding and no resolution loss.
