Shopping around for the best way to send files is a reasonable instinct. WeTransfer earns its place on that shortlist by staying focused on one thing: getting files from you to the right person, cleanly and quickly, with nothing standing in the way on either end.
Why choose WeTransfer
When you are comparing file transfer services, what separates them is how the whole experience holds up, not just the upload speed. WeTransfer runs entirely in the browser, so there is nothing to install and no account required for the person receiving your files. Every file arrives in its original quality, whether that is a high-resolution photo, a layered Photoshop document, a 4K video, or a ZIP archive of project assets, because WeTransfer does not re-encode or compress what you send. You can share via a unique download link that works anywhere, or deliver files straight to someone's inbox, and layer on password protection, download tracking, or per-email access restrictions whenever the work calls for it. The free plan covers a solid range of everyday sending needs, and paid plans add capabilities like custom expiry, transfer recovery, per-transfer branding, and shared team workspaces for when the work grows more complex.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Yes, WeTransfer has a free plan that requires no payment details to get started. With a free account you can send files up to 3 GB per transfer, run up to 10 transfers in a rolling 30-day window, and share via download link or email delivery. Password protection, download tracking, and restricted access are all available on the free plan too. The free plan is for non-commercial use.
WeTransfer is a sending tool rather than a storage platform, so the workflow is different by design. You upload your files, share a link or send to an inbox, and the recipient gets a clean download page with no sign-up, no app, and nothing to configure. There are no folder hierarchies to maintain or permissions systems to learn. If you need to move files from point A to point B without asking the other person to do anything, that is what WeTransfer is built for.
WeTransfer accepts any file type, including videos, images, design files, audio, PDFs, 3D and CAD files, Office documents, and ZIP archives. Files are never re-encoded, recompressed, or altered in any way, so a 4K video or a high-resolution RAW image lands on the other end exactly as you sent it. Recipients can also preview images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in the browser before downloading, which lets them choose what they actually need rather than pulling down everything at once.
With a link transfer, there is no recipient limit at all. Anyone with the link can access the files, making it practical for sharing with a large group, posting in a team chat, or embedding in a newsletter. For email delivery, free accounts can address up to 10 recipients per transfer, and paid plans raise that to 50. If you need even broader distribution, copying the link and sharing it directly is the simplest approach.
All files are encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stored on AWS servers in Ireland, and WeTransfer is both ISO 27001 certified and GDPR-compliant. You can add a password to any transfer, restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, or enable download tracking to see who accessed your files and when. WeTransfer does not view your files, does not sell your data, and never uses your content to train AI models.
