WeTransfer unveils payments to help creatives earn money
Integrated payments to roll out globally in 190 countries, following a successful test in North America and Canada
NEW YORK, NY, April 30 2024 – WeTransfer, the easiest platform for sharing ideas and collaborating with teams, today announces the ability to sell files directly on the platform to help creative professionals to securely share and earn money from their digital content. Integrating payments marks a significant strategic expansion in WeTransfer’s evolution into the most seamless one-stop shop for creatives.
In a booming freelance and creator economy, getting paid is an industry-wide problem – 87% of content creators have reported late or missed payments, with 29% of freelance invoices consistently paid late. Selling files on WeTransfer is available today to all WeTransfer users worldwide, enabling creatives to earn money immediately, saving many countless hours of time typically spent following up invoices for payment.
CEO Alexandar Vassilev said: “At WeTransfer, we believe that earning money for your work should be as effortless and simple as sharing a file. Millions of creatives already use our platform daily to interact with clients, fans and share important work, but too often get tripped up by chasing final payments long after the work has been completed.
“Bringing payments into our product ecosystem is a major new chapter in our mission to boost the convenience and earning potential of our creative user base, while removing common barriers through secure and beautifully simple technology.”
Through the launch into commerce, powered by long-term collaboration with Stripe, anyone can deliver work and earn from their creativity – photographers, designers, illustrators, musicians and other aspiring creators – without the need to leave their workflow, or bear the additional cost of a website or storefront. Additionally, WeTransfer will waive added platform fees in a bid to make getting paid simple and accessible.
The integration will be available globally, through a Stripe Business integration, with the following capabilities:
Global translations for all WeTransfer-supported languages outside of English [Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish]
Zero added fees – Beyond standard payment processing fees from Stripe and the chosen subscription plan, there will be no further platform costs for subscribers. Free account holders not on paid plans will be able to access integrated payments without added platform charges for a limited time.
Support 100+ currencies based on user’s preferences at onboarding with/ Stripe
